A brief description of this region

Everest Region Trekking The Everest region has become popular around the world for trekking, mountaineering, peak climbing and expedition due to the highest mountain (Mount Everest 8848meter) in the world - known as Sagarmatha ("head of the earth" in Nepal.

It is one of the major trekking destinations in Nepal in spite of poor accessibility. It is comparatively expensive and difficult than the Annapurna region. One must either walk for a week or fly to Lukla to get near Everest. The number of trekkers has increased dramatically because of the publicity by several sources. This region is famous not only for the world's highest mountain, (Mt.Everest 8848m.) but also for its typical Sherpa villages, their ancient cultures, age-old monasteries, landscapes, rocky valleys, alpine forests , meadows, Glaciers, ice-falls and wild-animals. The primary aim of trekking in Everest region is to step up to the Mt. Everest Base Camp (5340m.) It is true that Mt.Everest can not be observed from the base camp. So, while trekking to base camp most of the trekkers must go Kala Pathar (5545m.) to have a close view of Mt.Everest. Not only Mt. Everest but also other mountain peaks such as Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse , Mt. Amadablam , Mt. Pumori , Mt. Thamserku , Mt.Kantega, Kwangde and others can be seen from Kala Pattar.

Everest region offers varieties of trekking trails like- Everest Base Camp Trek, Gokyo lake Trek, Gokyo Cho- La Pass Trek, Rinjo La Pass Trek, Everest View Trek, Amadablam Trek and so on . Along the trail, the trekkers can look Sherpa's old settlements such as Lukla, Phakding, Monjo, Namche Bazaar, Khumjung, Thame, Tyangboche, etc. Being situated at high altitude, the region has high risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). If symptoms like headache, loss appetite and vomiting are seen , one has to immediately inform to the guide so that he would facilitate to take first aid treatment or take you to the near by health post or he will take you down to the lower altitude .

Everest region is located eastern part of Nepal and protected by the Sagarmatha National Park, established in 1976 AD with an area of 1148 square kilometers. It is listed as a World Heritage Site in 1979 AD. The park is largely composed of rugged terrain and deep gorges within an elevation of 2845m at Monju to the top of the world, Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) at 8,848m above sea level. Other peaks above 6,000m are Lhotse, Cho-Oyu, Thamserku, Nuptse, Amadablam, and Pumori. Vegetations at lower level is dominated by silver fir, birch, rhododendron and juniper trees, at around 4500m the forest gives way to Juniper and rhododendron scrub. The park contains a variety of mammals, Himalayan thar, musk deer, the Himalayan red panda and the Himalayan black bear are all native to the park. Some of the spectacular birds include the snow crow, snow pigeon and the Impean pheasant.

The way of this Everest region Trek is steep up to the last destination Everest Base Camp and Kala Pathr. Namche Bazaar, capital of the SoluKhumbu, Sherpa's abode where trekkers are again greeted by magnificent scenery of mountains. A rest day here aids acclimatization and there are great optional walks to enjoy the area. We then follow the trail to famous Tengboche where the views of Everest, the Lhotse-Nuptse Wall, Ama Dablam and Kantega can be seen from. It is surely one of the most tranquil and inspiring places in the world.

This journey begins with an early morning flight from Kathmandu to the Mountain airstrip at Lukla in the heart of the Khumbu Region. There follows a fairly easy day of around three to four hours up to first stop Phakding. We continue north up the Dudh Kosi Valley to Namche Bazaar, quite a hard day, where we spend a day acclimatizing, good food and accommodation. From Namche it is mainly a gradual push up to Kala Pattar and Everest Base Camp resting one day in Dingboche or Pheriche for some side trips and further acclimatization. After some spectacular close up views of Everest along with Nuptse Lohtse and Mount Pumori we retrace to Lukla for our flight to Kathmandu.
